Edgar Wright's first foray into unabashed, A-list Hollywood genre fare is a stylistically audacious delight, a thrilling action flick that, while playing with familiar narrative elements, is elevated by its terrific visuals, superb interplay with music, hilarious script and killer cast.

Does the musical gimmick come across as smugly self-satisfied on occasion? Sure, but in a movie loaded with delirious chase sequences and outrageous one-liners, it's hard to care all that much.

Certainly not Wright's strongest film by any means, but as far as summer blockbusters go, this one was uncommonly sharp and well-produced.
