10. The Boxer (1997)

Though The Boxer isn't DDL's best movie nor does it feature his best performance, it can take credit for being perhaps the epitome of his much-discussed method acting.

The actor trained as a boxer for roughly 18 months before shooting began, to the extent that his trainer, Barry McGuigan, said he would've been able to compete as a middleweight for real.

While the script can't even begin to live up to DDL's performance and it flirts with a lot of cliches, this is still a well-crafted sports drama accompanied by a fine cast.

Even if you're not into boxing, it's worth watching just because the central performance is so jaw-droppingly convincing.
