4. The Underwhelming First Act

It's tough to deny that Finch's first act is by far its weakest part, burning through the majority of its most generic material and over-familiar set-ups in that opening half-hour.

With its pretty typical end-of-the-world aesthetic and story centered around an A-list actor making a vital, perilous road trip, audiences may find themselves comparing Finch to George Clooney's The Midnight Sky from last year.

Similarly, it holds its spectacular production values and game lead actor out in front for all to see, though can't muster much in the way of fresh post-apocalyptic storytelling in its establishing scenes.

It feels very much been there, done that, and while always held aloft by Hanks' magnetic presence, you may find yourself wishing the opening act didn't cycle through formulaic genre elements quite so enthusiastically.
