9. Giant Annabelle - The Conjuring: Last Rites

The Conjuring movies have always felt like rollercoaster rides to an extent, though the earlier entries at least achieved a more appealing mix of well-thought-out scares and strong character work.

Yet the series' most recent entry, Last Rites, threw its hands up in the air and settled on the abject goofiness of a gigantic Annabelle monster.

When Judy Warren (Mia Tomlinson) searches the attic of the Smurl family's home, she encounters the iconic doll, which suddenly stands up and grows to a massive size before chasing her out of the room.

Even accepting that this isn't the real Annabelle but just the film's mirror demon toying with Judy, it's one step too silly in a franchise that's increasingly traded genuine atmosphere for goofy funhouse schlock.

Though many fans have wanted to see Annabelle actually get up and do something since the franchise's inception, between the poor CGI and silly-looking movements, this gag was a total misfire.
