7. AI Slop - Ice Cream Man

Eli Roth's new horror film Ice Cream Man caught a ton of well-earned flak for its egregious inclusion of imagery blatantly created by Generative AI - a choice made all the more grotesque by Roth's initial claim that this wasn't the case.

The most obvious Gen AI in the film comes by way of brief, old-timey animated sequences which hypnotise the children into murderous deeds. 

Roth initially claimed these asides were hand-drawn, yet when it was discovered that AI VFX company DarkHalf was included in the credits, the filmmaker corrected himself, claiming he "misspoke."

That's without even getting into the backstory montage which features a number of clips which bear the unmistakable hallmarks of Gen AI - namely a vague visual sensibility and brief shot length.

Ice Cream Man could've simply been a terrible slasher film we all forgot about in record time, but instead it's become a rightful punching bag in the backlash against Gen AI in Hollywood.
