20 Horror Franchises That NEED To Come Back

2. A Nightmare on Elm Street

Considering that A Nightmare on Elm Street is indisputably part of the Mount Rushmore of horror franchises, it's absolutely maddening that we haven't had a new entry since 2010's divisive remake.

A second remake was originally announced in 2015 yet swiftly slid into development hell, and by 2019 the rights had reverted to Wes Craven's estate, which started taking pitches for new Elm Street movies and TV shows.

In recent years original star Heather Langenkamp expressed an interest in returning for a legacy sequel, though Freddy Krueger actor Robert Englund confirmed in 2023 that he'd retired from playing Freddy on-screen due to his age and the physical demands of the role.

While recasting Freddy will be an immense challenge, a new Elm Street film which brings Langenkamp's Nancy Thompson back in some form and perhaps gives Englund a cameo has a ton of potential.

The concept of a dream-stalking serial killer is simply too brilliant to continue collecting dust, and if the filmmakers get the Freddy casting right there's every possibility for Elm Street to reign supreme once again.
