20 Horror Sequels That Took FOREVER To Get Made
6. Freddy vs. Jason
The ninth Friday the 13th film, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, may have been an utterly lackluster "finale" to the franchise, but it did end with one hell of an exciting tease for a Freddy vs. Jason movie, as Freddy's (Robert Englund) bladed glove grabs Jason's (Kane Hodder) mask and pulls it underground.
Freddy vs. Jason is basically a dream concept for any horror fan, and so many expected New Line Cinema to get it swiftly made just a few short years after the 1993 release of Jason Goes to Hell.
Yet Freddy vs. Jason didn't release until August 15, 2003 - 10 years and two days after Jason Goes to Hell first teased it.
This was largely due to the lengthy development process, with numerous scripts being written alongside the difficulties of getting all parties on the same page legally and creatively.
While Freddy vs. Jason ultimately wasn't a hit with critics, it fared much better with audiences, becoming the highest-grossing entry in either the Friday the 13th or Elm Street franchises at the time of its release.
