6. Lady Gaga's Terrific Lead Performance
If there was somehow any remaining doubt about Lady Gaga's plaudits as a "real actress," they should easily evaporate once audiences feast their eyes on her thoroughly entertaining performance as the Machiavellian schemer Patrizia Gucci.
Gaga clearly recognised the screenplay's strengths, delivering a heightened dramatic performance that leans into the soap opera-esque vibe of the battle to control the Gucci empire.
Her Italian accent is broad to a fault, perhaps, but she manages to disappear into the role effortlessly, painting a picture of a woman whose charms are undeniable, but whose thirst for power and pathological jealously also drove her to horrific acts.
It's not a performance that's going to win awards, but Gaga is absolutely the sturdy anchor that this movie needed, and it could've been lost without her.
