20 Upcoming Movies That Have Already WON

18. Matchbox: The Movie

It was easy to roll your eyes when a movie based on Mattel's Matchbox toy vehicle line was announced, because could it be anything other than supreme evidence that originality in Hollywood is indeed finally dead?

But thankfully the first trailer for Matchbox: The Movie confirms that the filmmakers are taking the best approach possible, by basically having a whole ton of gonzo fun with it.

From what we've seen so far, this John Cena-starring blockbuster is basically a goofier, less corny riff on the Fast and the Furious formula, with a keen awareness of its own absurdity.

Beyond the over-the-top silliness radiating from the game ensemble cast, the action sequences also look terrific - though that shouldn't be too surprising with veteran stunt-coordinator-turned-filmmaker Sam Hargrave (Extraction) at the helm.

Nobody's expecting high art out of a Matchbox movie, and why should they?

Crucially, just as Mattel allowed Greta Gerwig to basically do her own subversive thing with Barbie, they don't seem to be taking this undeniable exercise in corporate synergy too seriously.
