In David Rocksavages Brit independent film, Dornan is allowed for the first real time to show off his acting mettle as a man whos formed a bond with a much older woman (Jean Simmons, making her return to the screen after a decade) suffering from a chronic illness. Dornan is genuinely subtle and affecting here - even if the film isnt a masterpiece - playing the mysterious, wandering Joe with a taciturn decency. Theres not a great deal for Dornan to chew on courtesy of the script itself, but he still assembles his first fully-realised character for Shadows In The Sun, playing it reticent and a little bit gawky, surprisingly holding his own against two-time Academy Award nominee Simmons with ease.
