MCU: 10 Fascinating Facts Behind Captain America: Civil War (2016)
What Civil War owes to lies, smack-talk and John Wick...
Whose side were you really on? We can all look back now and say that Tony Stark was too pig-headed or that Cap's lie was a fundamental betrayal of his moral code, but before Civil War was released, one thing was very clear: we were all torn. In fact, the film wouldn't have come out as it was if we weren't. The Russos revealed after release that it was only when test audiences were split 50/50 on Team Cap and Team Iron Man that they went called it a day on making it.
That's why the conflict works so well.
It might be called an Avengers and a half movie, but despite the huge scale (and the enormous cost), Civil War is firmly a Captain America movie because it is deeply rooted in a personal story of four men. It's about a man who loses his father, a man accused of the killing, another man determined to clear his name and one more initially intent on bringing justice and then eventually whose own vengeance is triggered by a mysterious fifth player. Everything else is furniture, but it's done in such a way that it marries spectacle and drama perfectly.
To this day, it's widely considered the best MCU movie, but it may have a serious contender when Endgame comes around. And as we look forward to that movie's release, we're first looking back at the film that splintered the Avengers...
10. Tom Holland Hasn't Seen The Empire Strikes Back
Ddespite the fact that Spider-Man's plan to take down Giant Man in the airport sequence depends on him remembering the "really old movie" The Empire Strikes Back, Tom Holland admitted
In an interview with Yahoo! Movies he said he just didn't get round to it:
"I'm not a huge Star Wars fan. I am a fan of the new ones. I thought Rogue One and Force Awakens were dope ... I just for some reason skipped the original Star Wars. And I’m even more embarrassed to say that I loved those movies when I was a kid," said Holland. "Everyone’s like, ‘What? You liked those movies?!‘ But I thought they were great.”
Shocking really.
