Williams was a level of theatricality and sheer performance that Sheen didn't have chance to indulge in again until years later. In the meantime he played elder statesman, younger statesman, and had a string of unlikely cameo roles in bad rom-coms. Then, finally, Hollywood came knocking with an offer worth taking, as he took a small a part in the long-awaited Tron sequel. Small, but memorable, as a program within the eponymous computer programme he provides entertainment for his fellow pieces of data in his End Of Line club, planning to one day run The Grid (the nickname for the digital world he lives in) after he helps evil Jeff Bridges clone Clu leave for the real world. But before that, he vamps around his neon-soaked establishment in a manner which, according to Sheen himself, was inspired by performers such as David Bowie, Joel Grey from Cabaret, and a bit of Frank-N-Furter from The Rocky Horror Show. Sheen rarely gets to just totally let go and be completely crazy in a part, with Castor being a notably enjoyable, campy exception.
