20 Most Anticipated Movies of 2027

The movies everyone wants to see next year.

2026 has certainly been one heck of a year for movies both big and small so far, and the best might actually be yet to come with both the annual awards circus and several splashy blockbusters due to release at year's end.

But 2027 is already looking to be an at least equally stacked year of hugely buzzy, hotly anticipated movies you'll almost certainly want to see on the big screen, regardless of their budget.

This ranges from sequels in much-loved franchise, to adaptations of iconic video games, a prequel or two, and even a couple of honest-to-God totally original films from visionary filmmakers.

Boiling this list down to just 20 must-see films was no easy feat, but they're absolutely the movies sure to dominate The Discourse next year, while also quite probably racking up eye-watering amounts of money at the box office.

Here's hoping they also manage to match this with genuine quality, paying of all the hype and expectation that's been building for years in some instances.

Either way, these are the films guaranteed to be on everyone's lips throughout 2027...

20. The Legend of Zelda

Following the enormous success of both animated Mario movies, it was just a matter of time before Nintendo took a crack at The Legend of Zelda, but rather than go the animated route as many expected, it will, in fact, be a fully live-action affair.

Relatively obscure actors Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason have been cast as Link and Zelda respectively, while Uli Latukefu will play Ganandord, and Dichen Lachman has been cast as Impa, with the film also serving as the final screen appearance of the late, great Sam Neill.

Perhaps most crucially, The Legend of Zelda will be directed by Wes Ball, who did a terrific job helming both the Maze Runner films and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Tricky though it is to adapt a franchise as iconic as Zelda to the big screen - especially with Link being a silent protagonist in the games, which he presumably won't be here - it sounds like Nintendo is making some shrewd creative decisions.

The Legend of Zelda releases April 30, 2027.
