12. Man of Tomorrow

Last year's Superman served as a rock-solid launching pad for James Gunn's DC Universe, offering up a more hopeful, earnest iteration of the Man of Steel than we've seen on the big screen in quite some time.

And Gunn wasted no time getting the sequel going, which is currently in the later stages of shooting and soon to enter post-production.

Man of Tomorrow will bring back much of the first film's stacked ensemble cast, as Superman (David Corenswet) reluctantly joins forces with Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) to take on a bigger threat - the alien android Brainiac (Lars Eidinger).

Beyond Lars Edringer joining the fray, the sequel will also introduce Adria Arjona as Maxima, while Xolo Maridueña and Aaron Pierre will reprise the roles of Blue Beetle and Green Lantern from their own movie and TV show respectively.

There's certainly a whole lot riding on the film's success following Supergirl's catastrophic box office flop, but Gunn has proven beyond any doubt by this point that he knows how to deliver a quality blockbuster sequel.
