20 Most Underrated Horror Movies EVER

9. Cat People (1982)

Paul Schrader's 1982 remake of the classic 1942 supernatural horror film Cat People is one of the most fascinatingly sumptuous horror remakes of all time, and is in desperate need of a critical re-evaluation.

It's easy to take a look at Schrader's remake and just say that it's a more violent and sexually explicit reimagining, but that does a disservice to his more psychological, complex, and transgressive throughline.

Nastassja Kinski is utterly hypnotic in the lead role of a woman who comes to learn she's descended from werecats, and she's lent strong support by Malcolm McDowell and John Heard.

On top of this it's an absolutely gorgeous-looking movie, the synth score is electrifying, and David Bowie's title track is a banger beyond words.

Even if you don't agree that Schrader's film outdoes the more chaste original, it's nothing if not a remake that earns its stripes by delivering its own strong, distinct vision of the original concept.
