20 Most Underrated Horror Movies EVER
16. Idle Hands
1999's teen horror-comedy Idle Hands was panned by critics upon release and bombed at the box office as many cinema chains opted not to screen it following the Columbine High School massacre.
But time has been hella kind to this gloriously goofy film about a stoner (Devon Sawa) whose hand becomes possessed and embarks on a killing spree.
It's an easy concept to screw up, but director Rodman Flender nails a harmonious mix of stupid-smart humour, gnarly gore, and weirdly cosy hangout movie vibes.
Devon Sawa is immensely likeable in the lead role, while Seth Green, Elden Henson, and Jessica Alba are great fun as his pals and love interest respectively.
Beyond this, the practical effects hold up shockingly well almost 30 years (!) later, and it's even got an all-timer cameo from The Offspring which culminates in frontman Dexter Holland getting fatally scalped by the possessed hand.
What more could you possibly want out of a film with this premise?
A remake was announced back in 2024, but honestly, this one's probably best left alone.
