New Justice League Concept Art Reveals Batman's Massive 'Flying Fox' Plane
Batman's got a brand new toy.
We've already had a few glimpses of the Batmobile we'll see in this year's Justice League, but that's not the only vehicle Batman will be using in the movie.
As revealed by Entertainment Weekly, he's got a new toy that massively outstrips the car: a hulking plane known as the Flying Fox. With Batman becoming part of a much bigger team in the film, the car will no longer be enough, and that's where the giant aerial vehicle comes into use, as it transports the League around the globe. Production designer Patrick Tatopoulos said:
"You can put three Batmobiles in the lower part of it. I didn’t want to do a sleek airplane; it needed to feel like an extremely avant-garde classic. With the maneuverability of a jet - but it can actually carry things.
"The bottom part of the jet is a huge cargo bay, which the Batmobile sits in. The second floor is like a cultural centre, with computer terminals. The third story is the cockpit. Whatever floor you are on, you can see [the other] two stories."
The plane has been in the background of a couple of shots in the trailers, but this is easily our best look yet at it. There's no word on where the name comes from, but it could be after the large flying fox, which is one of the largest species of bats in the world, or perhaps some sort of reference to Lucius Fox (there's also an aircraft known as the Foxbat, if you wanna stretch it further).
Interestingly, it does also have Wayne Enterprises written on the side - either that has a cloaking device, or Bruce Wayne is happy knowing his company supplied the Justice League with this vehicle. Speaking about his role in the film, Ben Affleck said:
"The Batman is typically kind of a loner. I guess you’d call him kind of inward, you know? He brings them to the Batcave and lets them in on the central conflict of the story, who the enemy is. There’s a little bit of a Magnificent Seven aspect to it."
One of the intriguing aspects of the film will be seeing how Bats plays with others - something the trailers have done a great job of setting up - and, unfortunately for him, there's no alone time on this plane.
