20 Announced Movie Sequels NOBODY Expected

6. Road House: Dylan

Sequels don't get a whole lot stranger or more unexpected than this.

Following the success of 2024's Jake Gyllenhaal-starring remake of Road House on Amazon Prime Video, a sequel was quickly given the go-ahead, with Road House 2 wrapping shooting at the start of the year.

But late last year, it was also confirmed that a competing Road House sequel project was in the works - a direct follow-up to the original Patrick Swayze-starring 1989 film.

Doug Liman, who directed the 2024 remake and had a massive falling-out with Amazon over their decision to forego a theatrical release, has since teamed up with franchise creator R. Lance Hill to produce a legacy sequel.

It's an especially puzzling move considering that Patrick Swayze passed away in 2009, and with his Dalton being the only truly memorable character from the original film, there's no obvious path for the legacy sequel treatment.

With the new movie being titled "Road House: Dylan," we can assume that it'll be centered around Dalton's legacy, either focusing on his son or recasting the part entirely. 

Either way, it's tough to see this one turning out well.
