20 Announced Movie Sequels NOBODY Expected

It's fair to say that of all the films in Pixar's celebrated back catalogue, Coco would be right at the bottom of the pile for those with obvious sequel potential.

The 2017 fantasy-comedy was a perfectly executed one-off that didn't leave much more of a story to tell, but of course, with the box office landscape being as perilous as it is, Disney is shareholder-bound to double down on exploiting its cherished IP as much as possible.

And so, in early 2020 the Mouse House confirmed that Coco 2 was officially in the works, with original directors Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina set to return.

Again, it absolutely tracks that Disney is going to milk the likes of Toy Story, Monsters Inc., The Incredibles, and Finding Nemo until they can't any longer, but where exactly is a second Coco movie going to go?

This isn't to say the film will be bad by any means, but the whiff of desperation is nevertheless tough to deny.
