9. Kraken

On paper there's plenty of potential for a glossy creature feature in which a kraken wreaks havoc in a Norwegian fjord, but it's perhaps telling that this unimaginatively monikered film was delayed from its original 2025 release to give the team more time to hone its VFX.

And while that's hardly a bad thing in theory, the marketing struggled to disguise said ropey effects work - and as we all know, creature features tend to live or die on the strength of how well they realise the focal monster.

But wildly inconsistent VFX is just one of Kraken's problems, as the film also struggles to mine much basic tension from its bonkers setup, while the human characters couldn't really be any less interesting.

A film about a giant sea monster running riot shouldn't ever be this bafflingly dull, and yet Kraken fails to deliver even the most basic goods out of its B-movie setup.
