19. Altered

There's simply no genre that's tougher to pull off on a low budget than sci-fi, and the first trailer for the Tom Felton-starring Altered made that overwhelmingly clear.

Even if you can forgive how thunderously generic the story is - set in a world ruled by genetically enhanced humans - Altered's $15 million budget isn't nearly enough to do justice to its ideas. So much is obvious from just looking at a few shots.

That's without even mentioning that the film is written and directed by Timo Vuorensola, whose previous credits include panned schlock such as Iron Sky and Jeepers Creepers: Reborn. Ever a ringing endorsement.

So who can be shocked that Altered took a spirited kicking from critics and general audiences alike? The CGI is wack, Felton's American accent... isn't great, and the script is precisely the sort of programmatic nonsense folks dismiss as "giving AI" these days.
