20 Recent Movies EVERYONE Knew Would Suck
16. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Though The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a mammoth box office success, it certainly wasn't good - a very typical offering from Illumination which delivered some colourful visuals but offered up the most basic, scrawled-on-a-napkin script while overdosing on pop music needle-drops.
And even though sequel The Super Mario Galaxy Movie had the good sense to adapt the fan favourite Super Mario Galaxy games, why expect Illumination and Nintendo to deviate much from the first film's formula when it printed them a cool $1.36 billion?
While we'll give this sequel mild credit for largely ditching the pop music, it's just more of the same otherwise - relentless attempts to push our nostalgia receptors wrapped in a pretty bow, with virtually nothing that could ever be called actual substance.
Some might ask why anyone would expect more than that from a Mario movie of all things, but c'mon - can we not aim a little higher than this?
