One Mind Blowing Secret From Every MCU Movie
3. Thunderbolt Ross Was Supposed To Die - Captain America: Brave New World
Though the vast majority of MCU outings have gone through reshoots for a multitude of different reasons, reports told of Captain America: Brave New World going through this process like nothing before. To read everything that was written, you would think an entirely new movie was made, and to a degree it was.
The Serpent Society were removed altogether, while Giancarlo Esposito's Sidewinder was added into the mix, and there was also a funeral scene cut. This would have in all likelihood been for Thunderbolt Ross, played of course in the film by Harrison Ford.
A huge part of the story's conflict comes from Ross slowly dying, and being saved somewhat by Samuel Sterns' (Tim Blake Nelson) pills, while there were paparazzi shots of the scene being filmed featuring the cherry blossoms that meant so much to Ross and his daughter, Betty (Liv Tyler). So we can safely take from this that Ford's character was not originally meant to survive.
In fairness, killing an actor like Harrison Ford off the moment he joins the MCU would be bordering on insanity, but potentially the bigger takeaway is that his fate must have been changed for a reason. Was he sent to the Raft instead of a grave because he has a role to play further down the Marvel line? Who wouldn't say no to that?
