9. SHOCK: America Ferrera's INSANE Best Supporting Actress Nod
By far the most shocking and unexpected acting nomination this year was America Ferrera's Best Supporting Actress nod for Barbie, which had been considered a pretty optimistic hope for the film's fans at absolute best.
And yet, Ferrera managed to sneak into the pack of five - a pick which immediately proved divisive online.
After all, Ferrera certainly tears through that unforgettable late-film monologue with gusto, but is there really much else to her performance or character that makes it nomination-worthy?
More to the point, was she really more deserving of a nod than Julianne Moore for May December?
Though the supporting categories generally allow Oscar voters to recognise more out-there performances in more mainstream-skewing fare, this feels like a nomination that's going to age... not so well.
