10. Shock: Sicario Gets Three Nominations

Though Denis Villeneuve's riveting thriller scored high acclaim upon release, it's flown incredibly low as far as awards prospects go, so it was a surprise to see the film end up with three nominations, even if many believe it also deserved recognition for Best Picture, Director and Supporting Actor. Sicario scored massively unexpected nods for Best Original Score and Sound Editing, while Roger Deakins nailed his 13th nomination (without a single win, no less) for Best Cinematography, though sadly he's dead-set to lose out yet again to Emmanuel Lubezki (The Revenant). It deserves more, but hey, it still did much better than expected.
