Oscars 2019: Predicting All The Nominees

21. Makeup And Hairstyling

The smallest category in that only a trio of movies can be nominated here, but there's still plenty of competition. This is often quite a broad contest, allowing movies that wouldn't otherwise be recognised to secure Oscar glory, i.e. Suicide Squad's shock victory a couple of years ago.

The shortlist has already whittled down to just seven films, including: Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody, Border, Mary Queen of Scots, Stan & Ollie, Suspiria, and Vice. Border and Suspiria were ignored by the Make-up & Hair Stylists' Guild, suggesting they won't get much love here (though Suspiria did get a Critics' Choice nomination). It's hard to imagine the transformative work on Vice will be ignored, and while it'd be good to see something like Stan & Ollie nominated, the work on Mary Queen of Scots and Bohemian Rhapsody is flashier.
