Paul Rudd: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 That Sucked

By Tom Baker /

1. Tommy Doyle - Halloween: The Curse Of Michael Myers (1995)

Everybody has to start somewhere. Paul Rudd's breakout role was in Clueless, which remains one of the best performances of his career. That same year, however, he managed to also provide his worst-ever performance. Although, admittedly, by the time you reach the sixth Halloween film, nobody's really on their A-game. Paul Rudd took the part of Tommy Doyle, the kid Jamie Lee Curtis was babysitting in the original Halloween, and who was suitably disturbed in the process. In place of Curtis's Laurie Strode Rudd's Tommy takes the role of hero, realising that Michael Myers has returned to his hometown of Haddonfield. Wait, why does anyone still live there? It's an incredibly dull and half-baked part that could have been something interesting. Instead of being a kid haunted by his traumatic past, though, Tommy quickly becomes your garden-variety horror movie hero, figuring out Michael Myers was possessed by a Pagan spirit who forces people to murder. This is the film that ruined Halloween as it nearly did Rudd's career. Then again, if you ever wanted to see a teenage Paul Rudd creeping out schoolgirls and stealing babies whilst dressed in a series of awfully nineties outfits, this is the performance for you...
