The Fast and the Furious franchise is as much of a sure box office success as you'll find outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and even with its current diversification into spin-off fare, Hobbs & Shaw feels snugly at home alongside the series' mainline outings.

The first trailer melted the Internet with its unexpectedly high-budget thrills - after director David Leitch implied it would be a smaller-scale affair - and sizzling bromantic chemistry between Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.

As much as people complain about "Dwayne Johnson fatigue", this looks awesome as escapist brainless entertainment goes, and so it's tough to imagine it coming in at less than a cool $1 billion.

It's got a cracking release date, for despite coming two weeks after The Lion King it has the entirety of August to itself with no direct competition.
