Predicting The 20 Best Movies Of 2013

2. Gravity

Alfonso Cuaron is responsible for one of the best science fiction films of all time with his 2006 dystopian film Children of Men. For his first outing since that iconic film, Cuaron has returned to the science fiction genre with Gravity, starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock as astronauts stranded aboard a damaged spacestation. Despite my intense dislike of Sandra Bullock as an actress, Gravity has to be considered likely to be one of the year's best films considering Cuaron's track record. Reviews from early screenings of the film have described it as an incredible visual accomplishment although there is a little bit of division concerning the other elements of the film. Much attention has been given to the films purported 17 minute opening shot as Cuaron has long been famous for long takes but nothing to this extent. There's very little to suggest that Gravity will be anything less than a sci-fi masterpiece as by all accounts will feature some astonishing visuals and I'm going to guess that Cuaron has made a story to match it.
