Predicting The 9 Star Wars Movies Currently In The Works
7. Maul: A Star Wars Story
Though theories abounded in the days following Solo's release that the ending tease was the set-up for an Obi-Wan movie, it's unlikely Lucasfilm's story group would pursue such a storyline. Maul and Kenobi's arc was already brought to a close in Rebels, and with the former Sith Apprentice's appearance being more thematically important than anything else, along with Solo's poor commercial reception, the likelihood of this having anything to do with a sequel is somewhat unlikely.
That being said, Darth Maul is still a popular character, and a villain who was largely wasted in The Phantom Menace. Appearances in The Clone Wars, Rebels and now Solo too illustrate an interest in the villain, and though - like Boba - it could be a case of the less we know about Maul, the better, there's a clear desire from fans to learn more about Palpatine's first pupil.
Unsurprisingly, talk of a Maul spin-off has increased steadily in the weeks since Solo's release. Disney are yet to sanction a Star Wars feature with a villainous focus, but the temptation to rectify one of the prequels' most frustrating errors must still be there - even if we're yet to learn if Star Wars can sustain a decidedly darker story-arc.
