Ridley Scott’s Sci-Fi chiller was hardly treading new ground, yet what made this genre effort resonate was all in its approach. It took B-material and handled it with A-grade precision; the direction was careful and deliberate, the cast raw and empathetic, the art design and effects were out-of-this-world dazzling.

Most importantly was the creature itself; not some prancing rubber suit, the Xenomorph is the stuff of feverish nightmares and likely the most terrifying entity to grace the celluloid screen ever. Its biologic cycle and design remain as fascinating as horrifying, strangely drawing the audience into wanting to learn more of this chilling beast.

Personally, why this classic doesn't take poll position is that its moody pacing and jump twists, ever so slightly wane the initial power with repeat viewings. Still, that's only a preference, as many would argue this deserves top-spot.

With that said, there's no denying this is a stone-cold classic that has lost little of its impact at present. It's a film that grips you with unbearable dread and tension from just its opening moments and doesn't let go till the breathless finale.
