Box Office: Budgeted at around $21 million, John Krasinski's near-universally acclaimed horror film is closing in on $250 million worldwide. A stunning success for a film with a risky central conceit that relies on other cinema patrons keeping quiet. Unsurprisingly, a sequel is already in the pipeline.

Verdict: While the familial set-up requires a sure suspension of disbelief, A Quiet Place is without question one of the most taut and ingeniously constructed horror films of recent years, taking a simple premise and executing it with immense stylistic panache.

Krasinski, Emily Blunt and their young co-stars give splendid performances in a riveting genre joint that puts humanity ahead of spectacle, though delivers plenty of stomach-knotting suspense all the same.
