19. Evil Dead Burn

It's impressive how consistently the Evil Dead franchise has delivered the goods across more than 40 years, but Evil Dead Burn is the first of the six movies where the series' formula began to feel a little stale.

It's certainly not a bad movie by any means, but there's a strangely perfunctory air about the whole endeavour, which mostly just feels like it's going through the motions of what fans expect from an Evil Dead movie without bringing anything fresh to the table.

Some fans meanwhile echoed Bruce Campbell's sentiment that the film is too grim and mean for its own good, and that it needed more of Sam Raimi's distinctive black humour.

Again, though, it's really the first film in the six-part franchise that feels a bit redundant and forgettable, though with follow-up Evil Dead Wrath already in the can, hopefully it'll be a mere blip on an otherwise laudably fruitful franchise.
