9. The Death of Robin Hood

Though The Death of Robin Hood actually had a pretty compelling premise, offering up a revisionist, grizzled take on the classic character, it was painfully clear that A24 had no idea what to do with it.

Even with this fresh take on the character, it's tough to deny that there's substantial Robin Hood fatigue among general moviegoers, who are largely fed up with how over-exposed he's been in media over the years.

But A24 really didn't give this new vision much chance at all, even with Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer starring and the film being directed by the talented Michael Sarnoski (Pig, A Quiet Place: Day One).

With a lack of marketing and mid-summer release date where slow, grim movies have little prospect of thriving, The Death of Robin Hood topped out at a paltry $9.5 million - not even half its $20 million budget.

While there's likely no outcome where this was a box office smash, especially with wildly mixed reviews, A24 could've at least tried.
