Solo: A Star Wars Story - 10 Concerns Raised By The New Trailer

3. It Doesn't Feel Like Something From The Same Universe

There's an inherent "feel" to films in the Star Wars canon, and to date every entry has managed to capture the tone and atmosphere pretty accurately. One could argue that The Phantom Menace was too serious, or that Return of the Jedi was too silly, but overall they still felt like Star Wars pictures - entries in the same canon.

When the initial footage for Rogue One dropped in the form of its own teaser trailer, the fears regarding director Gareth Edwards seemed to fall away. Here was a movie that looked and felt like Star Wars to an almost religious degree: everything from the costumes to the sets looked authentic, and this all carried over into the final film. Say what you want about Rogue One, but it certainly feels like Star Wars.

Something isn't right about Solo, though, at least going by this teaser, and it might stem from the fact that the movie was caught between two directorial teams: that of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and later Ron Howard. Lord and Miller are known for an improvisational style, whilst Howard is a traditionalist in the Spielberg vein.

A film that falls somewhere into the middle of these style was always bound to feel at odds with itself, but it's still a shame that the indescribable Star Wars "feel" appears to have been replaced here with something far more generic.
