Spider-Man: 10 Reasons Sony Should Fire Andrew Garfield

2. The Existing Canon Doesn€™t Fit With The MCU

One of the many ideas bandied around online is to simply incorporate The Amazing Spider-Man franchise into the MCU - overtures towards this direction have been made before, with the Oscorp tower nearly making its way into The Avengers' New York skyline - but the two worlds are simply incompatible. The Chitauri invasion in The Avengers wreaked havoc across New York, and throughout Phase Two of Marvel€™s movies the characters have been shown to be angered, saddened and repulsed by the events. Seeing as Spider-Man is set in New York, yet no nods towards this groundbreaking event were made, it would be hard to integrate the movie into the wider network. The Amazing Spider-Man franchise has been grounded in science, so fitting Marvel€™s upcoming cosmic and mystic heroes in with Garfield€™s iteration of the character would be virtually impossible. It isn€™t Garfield€™s fault that the franchise is incompatible, but it would be complicated and convoluted to bring the star into the MCU. It makes much more sense to start anew with a fresh face.
