Theres always the chance that Homecoming domain is a red herring, so how about an alternative storyline for Hollands first full Spider-Man outing?
J. Michael Straczynski and Ron Garneys 2007 five-parter Back in Black is a prime candidate for this, given that its takes place during the aftermath of the Civil War arc.
The story sees Spidey don a black costume not unlike his Symbiote getup and turn badass to track down a mystery shooter who put a bullet in his Aunt May. It brings the dark side of good-natured Peter Parker to the fore and presents him as man hungry for vengeance. Hes a love of firearms away from becoming the Punisher.
Back in Black could be a good fit for Marvel Studios plans due to its positioning on the comic book timeline, falling immediately after Civil War - although a direct adaptation poses a few logistical problems.
The story would only make sense if moviegoers were introduced to the Symbiote suite in Civil War, plus the Kingpins starring role could be an issue given that the live-action version of the chrome-domed villain is tied up in Marvels TV universe. Then again, a crossover at some point makes sense.
