Star Trek 50th Anniversary: 10 Things That Must Happen

4. Star Trek 3 To Have An Opening That Pays Homage To A Classic Episode

No we haven't just done a U turn on our previous point. The bulk of the next film should be something original but we have to remember that this is also a film taking place in the 50th anniversary. We want it to celebrate its rich history as well as being exciting and fresh to Trekkies and non-Trekkies alike. We discussed before that the last film should have played with an original episode rather than going for Khan. This film could do that, but keep that alternate remake confined to the first fifteen minutes. Wouldn't it be awesome to open into the final moments of The Corbomite Maneuver, The Devil In The Dark or The Trouble With Tribbles? Imagine the crew facing off against Balok on the viewscreen, McCoy healing the Horta or Kirk opening a hatch and being smothered in Tribbles? From there the Enterprise could set off on an original adventure and Star Trek could have fulfilled the potential of establishing an alternate reality, celebrating what came before before launching into something new.
