As the Expanded Universe continued to, well, expand, it was becoming apparent that there needed to be more than the remnants of the Empire for the New Republic to have to deal with. How many splinter cells of Imperials could there really be out there? And how much of a threat could they be? Enter, the Yuuzhan Vong. The Vong were race of religious zealots that genetically engineered and grew all of their technology organically and viewed mechanical technology as blasphemy. The Yuuzhan Vong invasion featured prominently in the New Jedi Order series and was one of the most costly wars in the galaxy due to the death toll it produced. It also resulted in the deaths of many of the major characters of both the EU and canon stories, including Anakin Solo, Admiral Ackbar and one other beloved icon who will be discussed later. However with the reset button everyone gets another life. Unfortunately the Yuuzhan Vong will never be properly fleshed out.
