4. Chris McQuarrie Was Asked To 'Save' The Rogue One Script
The task of writing Rogue One has passed through a few different hands. After John Knoll (Chief Creative Officer at ILM) came up with the story outline, it was Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli) who was tasked with coming up with the script, but when he departed it was Chris Weitz (About a Boy) who stepped up to write the screenplay. Now, Birth. Movies. Death. are reporting that Chris McQuarrie - well-known as a Hollywood script doctor, as well as writing and directing his own films such as Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation - was brought in to polish the script after Weitz, with one of their sources using the word "saved." Rating: 8/10 The screenplay's already been through a couple of hands, so it's not the biggest surprise to see someone else - especially with a reputation for doing solid work on other people's scripts - brought in to give it a final touch-up. McQuarrie actually seems like a more solid fit for this than Whitta and Weitz, based on previous writing efforts at least, so this does seem quite likely, although as reported he may not get an actual credit for it. This rumour was first reported by Latino Report back in October, although there was no mention of it being "saved" then, just polished, but now with it being reported again by a different outlet suggests that there is plenty of truth to him doing work, although whether he has truly rescued it, or just tidied it up, is less clear.
