Star Wars Episode 7: 5 Minor Characters Who Need A Bigger Role

2. Wedge Antilles

The working class hero of the Star Wars universe, Wedge Antilles somehow manages to survive all three original series movies, including two Death Star runs, without the benefit of either Jedi abilities or the security of being a main character. After the Battle of Endor, Wedge Antilles goes on to become one of the key members of the New Republic military, leading the famous Rogue Squadron on critical missions, including the capture of Coruscant, and one of the icons of the conflict. Wedge Antilles should get a more substantial role in the upcoming series for several reasons: first, he's really popular with Star Wars fans; secondly, he gives the audience someone relatively normal to relate to in a movie likely to be filled with essentially superheros; and finally, it would give us a chance to see Rogue Squadron in action. Bringing back Wedge Antilles in some capacity, hopefully a larger one, is simply a must for Abrams.
