Star Wars: Rogue One - 10 Niggling Concerns No Fan Wants To Admit
3. Potentially Made Only For The Trailer
In
many ways, trailers and movies are entirely separate entities, the former designed
to sell the experience offered by the latter, sometimes misrepresenting or exaggerating
aspects of that experience. Sometimes – despite an excellent trailer – a movie
will inevitably disappoint, because the two elements aren’t necessarily
connected as much as you might think.
In some instances, certain movies will include numerous, immediately striking shots which serve no logical purpose within the context of the sequence. These shots are called ‘trailer shots’ and are generally frowned upon because they skewer the boundaries between promotional material and artistic production, seeing as how they only exist seemingly to be included in the trailer – the Transformers series is especially guilty of this particular trend.
Based on preliminary evidence, Rogue One might be deemed equally culpable, the second trailer containing numerous, almost unnatural glamour shots in which characters stand around in strangely symmetrical patterns, or move together in perfect unison – shots which will hopefully slot into the movie seamlessly, though appear weirdly incongruous.
