Star Wars: Rogue One Trailer - 9 Things The Teaser Didn't Show

5. Grand Moff Tarkin

Another character who was extremely important during the period that Rogue One is set and yet remains absent from the teaser?  Why, it's Grand Moff Tarkin, who was immortalised in the original Star Wars film by the one and only Peter Cushing (and died during Luke Skywalker's assault on the Death Star, no less).

Now, there's a rumour going around at the moment that states Ben Mendelsohn could well be playing a younger version of the character, but I don't buy that; he doesn't come over as very Tarkin-like in the teaser, and I doubt that the studio would have opted to recast him. There's also the fact that we briefly see Tarkin at the end of Revenge of the Sith, and he already looks a lot older than Mendelsohn does in the teaser.

The other rumour is that Rogue One will use CGI to recreate Peter Cushing as a digital entity, which could work well if Tarkin isn't brought to the forefront of the story.

Given his prominence in Episode IV, and his close but troubled relationship with Darth Vader, it seems safe to assume that this villainous character will fit into Rogue One somewhere, but maybe he'll be left out of any marketing materials, as to give fans a treat when the film rolls around at the end of the year.
