Granted, the Star Wars movies were never hilarious, laugh out loud affairs, but the films did embrace something of a jovial tone - especially the original flick. And whilst the final trailer for The Force Awakens captures the "feel" of Star Wars in pretty much every way, it also looks like a noticeably dark and humourless film. Very serious. Very poe-faced. Very much lacking the feeling of fun that goes with the franchise. Because as much as Star Wars is about the power of The Force and the evil Empire and lowly characters fulfilling their destinies in a galaxy far, far away, it's also about C-3PO and R2-D2 comically bickering with one another and Han Solo making snarky comments and trying to crack onto the Princess whenever possible. Of course, this is an opinion formed entirely by this trailer alone: the movie itself will very likely wind up embracing the sense of fun that those early Star Wars flick did, albeit with sudden moments of darkness and despair (The Empire Strikes Back style). Here's hoping that there's still a bit of fun inherent to J.J. Abrams' upcoming blockbuster, then.
