Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Things Everybody Missed In The Final Trailer

9. Why The TIE Fighter Crashed

Over the course of the three teasers we've been able to get a good idea of how Finn goes from First Order Stormtrooper to companion of Rey (quite how he'll wind up in that forest with Anakin's lightsaber is anyone's guess though); it'd be fair to assume that the TIE Fighter seen attacking Stormtroopers in a Star Destroyer hangar is the same one that crashes onto Jakku, meaning that's likely how Finn makes it down to the desert planet. And, while it's really blink-and-you'll-miss-it right at the start of the great shot of the TIE getting hit, you can actually see what's caused the explosion. As you can see above, there's the blue contrails of what is presumably a homing missile. We saw such weapons in the both Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith - used by Jango Fett in the Geonosis asteroid field and by vulture droids to attack Anakin and Obi-Wan during the Battle of Coruscant respectively) - which makes this a nice, unobtrusive shout-out to the prequels. This is actually quite a potent point, reminding that for all the stripped-back original trilogy iconography those movies are still a part of the wider galaxy (in fact, the first teaser even featured a podracer in its second shot).
