Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Things Everybody Missed In The Final Trailer

8. Kylo Ren's All-Female Crew

There's so much going on with Kylo Ren in the trailer - he's talking to Darth Vader's burnt mask, torturing Poe Dameron, stood with his Knights of Ren, menacing Finn - that it's rather easy to miss this incredible, bizarre and possibly rather impactful element; all of the officers on his bridge appear to female. No, seriously, check it out in the trailer - the body shapes and clothing is all distinctly feminine. Could this be a hint at something big relating to Kylo; perhaps the Knights of Ren are a gender-imbalanced cult, with a female body of disciples and a male figurehead? Or maybe it's just happenstance, a show of gender equality in both the First Order and the Star Wars casting with no deeper reading. That nonchalant presentation would certainly fit the more female-driven franchise we seem to be getting; there was always a severe lack of female characters in Star Wars, but now the protagonists of the first two Disney films (Rey and Felicity Jones' Rogue One character), as well as a key antagonist (Captain Phasma) and another, mysterious figure (Maz Kanata), are all women. It took almost forty years, but Star Wars is finally addressing the gender gap.
