Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Things Everybody Missed In The Final Trailer

7. The Mirroring Of Rey And Kylo Ren's Masks

One of the most striking things about the footage we've seen of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the much more adventurous cinematography. As discussed in this article, the franchise has been pretty much defined by its very classical, simple approach to photography, but, even based on the few minutes we've seen, Episode VII is really shaking it up. This lends itself to make some rather artistic comparisons. Take, for example, that Rey's desert getup, made up of a wrapped cloth face mask and what appear to be stormtrooper goggles (another bonus thing everyone missed), is incredibly similar to that of Kylo Ren's Vader-esque helmet (right down to the identically shaped eyes) - shot in the same straight close up in the trailer, there's a clear attempt to try and subliminally draw similarities or highlight contrast between the two characters. What this is implying won't be clear until we learn a bit more about the part these two have to play in the wider Star Wars narrative, although the biggest assumption would be that Rey is indeed the film's hero and will go up against her polar opposite in the form of Kylo. Of course, you could take that whole form of thinking a big step further and posit (as many have) a stronger relationship between the two. But, based on the trailer, that is just speculation.
