3. C-3PO And R2-D2 Are At A Rebel Base (Also, He Has A Red Arm)
It had been seen in some leaked toy art and in the background of the Comic-Con behind-the-scenes reel, but now we have a proper close up at C-3PO and his new, red arm. As one of the few characters who can't just naturally look older, this snazzy replacement (which he likely got between trilogies) is a cool visual shorthand to emphasise the passage of time. Of course, that info isn't "new" per se, but it's nice to see it officially confirmed. That's not the only alteration to the droid though. It appears as if Threepios silver right shin, a cosmetic imperfection he sported throughout the original trilogy, has been updated to the standard gold, meaning theres more than one adjustment being made to everyones favourite prissy protocol droid in the past thirty-five years. But forget all that. There's something concrete to the movie's plot here too - the extra in the background have a Rebel insignia on his shoulder, revealing this location as a Resistance base. As this appears to be where Carrie Fisher was scene in the Comic-Con footage it's not much of surprise, but it does have some implications for the other droid in the picture. It seems like a no-observation to point out C-3PO is paired with R2-D2 - these guys are "counterparts " - but given that our only previous glimpse of the astromech was with (presumably) Luke on a totally different planet, this means Artoo jumps from one party to another during the film. All in a day's work for him, of course.
