Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 9 New Cast Members' Best Roles So Far

By Brogan Morris /

6. Gwendoline Christie - Game Of Thrones

You can be pretty certain about one thing regarding The Force Awakens: Captain Phasma is going to be the toy every magpie-minded child will want this Christmas. A senior member of The First Order, Phasma looks like a stormtrooper as given a makeover by Xzibit, complete with shiny chrome finish, tricked-out blaster and a goddamn imperial cape. The actor underneath the costume, however, is yet another indication of how progressive the new Star Wars movie will be - Gwendoline Christie joins lead female hero Daisy Ridley and black stormtrooper John Boyega as the first female baddie in the Star Wars universe. The casting of Christie, brought to public attention as Game Of Thrones' Brienne of Tarth, suggests Phasma will rival Adam Driver's Kylo Ren in the tough cookie department. As Brienne, Christie is the epitome of the new strong screen female: independent, capable, more than a match for the men, but never one to be ostentatious about it. Phasma looks to be more of the same - in short, Christie's a perfect fit.
