Suicide Squad: 9 Cool Deleted Scenes Missing From The Extended Cut
The amount of missing footage is no joke.
While Suicide Squad wasn’t the breezy action romp the trailers sold us, there was still fun to be had. Margot Robbie, Will Smith and – shockingly – Jai Courtney were perfectly cast, and there were lots of entertaining action scenes to prop up the thin story.
Fans who’d waited months for it will have quickly noticed multiple scenes featured in the trailers were missing. This left the pace feeling choppy since there were multiple holes in the plot, and soon news spread of Jared Leto being angry at the amount of cut Joker footage, alongside scores of other scenes taken out.
The film was clearly given a facelift during editing to trim the harder edges, mostly revolving around Joker being abusive to Harley. Fans were expecting the Extended Cut to restore what was removed, just like the Batman V Superman: Ultimate Edition did. Sadly it only added back a few scenes that alter nothing.
Despite soaring fan interest, we’ll probably see the footage that was taken out, so let’s examine some of the most interesting sequences now rotting in deleted scenes limbo.
9. The Joker Goes Batty
The Joker’s time in Arkham is brief in the final cut, flashing from his meetings with Harley to his men breaking him out. Numerous photos and set footage shows this sequence originally took more time, including a longer conversation during Harley’s shock therapy, and Joker ultimately sparing her life when Jonny Frost is about to execute her.
One striking set photo showed Joker with a baseball bat during this scene, which is nowhere to be found in either version. There was a brief bit of business before he shocks Harley where Mr J is seen beating a guard to death, which apparently was too dark for a scene that’s already a bit...well, shocking.
He was also later seen beating another poor security guard to death while breaking into Dr. Van Criss' lab, which again was too much for the rating.
